Abstract

376,480. Force-feed lubricating. ELLOR, J. E., Grandell, South Drive, Chain Lane, Mickleover, Derby. June 26, 1931, No. 18541. [Class 12 (iii).] In a lubricating system for an internalcombustion engine wherein oil is delivered from the engine sump by a pump through a pipe b<7> into a chamber b, whence it is supplied to the engine through a filter b<3> and pipe b<2> by another pump, the chamber b is constituted by one portion of a divided tank and is in communication through small holes in the dividing, wall with the other portion a containing a reserve supply of oil so that the oil levels in the two portions are the same. By thus restricting the size of the chamber b through which the oil circulates, the oil in circulation is quickly heated up when the engine is started. As shown, the chamber b in the form of a vertical cylinder projects into the tank a, communication being established through holes c. Oil discharged through the pipe b<7> spreads over a diaphragm b<8>, whereby trapped air separates out and passes into the vented tank a through apertures b<6> in the top of the chamber b while the oil drops into the latter through apertures in the diaphragm. In another form, the chamber a is arranged within the tank b and the oil discharged through the pipe b<7> runs down an inclined trough in the upper portion of the tank so as to separate out any trapped air.
