Abstract

383,297. Galvanic batteries. FULLER, L., 2A, Courtfield Gardens, London, FULLER, G. J. A., Brooklyn, Loughton, Essex, and SUDLOW, E. W., 13, Highfield Gardens, London. June 4, 1931, Nos. 16238/31 and 3400/32. [Class 53.] A storage battery comprises a number of cells each consisting of a tubular lead casing 10 pasted on its interior surface with active material 12 and enclosing a second electrode consisting as shown in Fig. 1 of a lead core 13 embedded in active material 15 which may be protected by a sheath 16 of wood &c. The central electrode stands on a disc 17 of ebonite &c. The cell is closed by a washer 18 and a layer of pitch or wax 20 through which a vent tube 19 passes which is sufficiently long to prevent spraying and creeping of electrolyte. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the central electrode consists of a tube 26 covered with active material which is provided with a sheath 27 held in place by rubber bands 28. The tube 26 extends below a flange 14 and is perforated at 29, 30 to allow circulation of electrolyte. The upper end of the tube 26 serves as a filling opening and vent. A number of cells are placed in an outer container and embedded in pitch or wax to form a high tension accumulator. Specifications 18098/09, 22053/12, 322,251, [all in Class 53, Galvanic batteries], and 383,529 are referred to.
