383,535. Galvanic batteries. FULLER, L., 2A, Courtfield Gardens, Earl's Court, London, FULLER, G. J. A., Brooklyn, Loughton, and SUDLOW, E. W., 13, High Road, Ilford, both in Essex. April 8, 1932, No. 10165. [Class 53.] A high tension accumulator comprises a number of cells each of which consists of a thin lead casing forming the negative electrode which is pressed or cast in one piece and is pasted with active material on its inner surface. The second electrode consists of a central lead rod or wire which is embedded in active material. Fig. 1 shows a single cell in which the lead container 10 is coated with active material 12 and encloses a lead core 13 embedded in active material 15 which is supported by a washer 14 and protected by a wood sheath 16. An insulating disc 17 rests on the bottom of the cell which is closed at the upper end by a washer 18 and a layer 20 of pitch or wax &c. A long vent tube 19 is provided to prevent spraying and creeping of the electrolyte. A number of such cells are completely embedded in pitch or wax &c., through which the tubes 19 project, to form a high tension battery. The sealing material may however only cover the upper ends of the cells as shown in Fig. 5, the cells being spaced apart by members 27, 28. Each cell may be provided with a wrapping 26 of cardboard.
