Abstract

Electrodes; cells; gas exits; cleaning.-A storage battery is provided with grease-cups 12 round its terminals to prevent creeping of electrolyte, a gas exit 4 and a detachable bottom 19 to facilitate cleaning. The grease-cups consist of tubular parts 12 closed by covers 13 on which rest rubber and celluloid washers 14, 15. The cups are filled with grease and closed by celluloid washers 16 held in place by nuts 17, 18. The gas exit consists of a conical member 4 perforated at its lower end and carried by a stopper 5 screwed into a ring 7 in the cell cover. A tube 6 leads to the atmosphere. The bottom of the cell, which may be moulded in one piece or built up from a number of parts cemented together as shown in Fig. 1, fits within the lower end of the cell, the joint 22 being covered bv a strip of celluloid 21, cemented in place. This strip is removed by a knife when the bottom is to be detached. A space 2 is left above the electrodes to receive the electrolyte when the cell is inverted.
