Cells; supports for electrodes.-A storage battery container of glass or other hard substance is substantially larger than the electrode assemblage so that a large volume of electrolyte can be used, and to prevent movement of the electrodes the container is provided with ribs b as shown in plan in Fig. 2. Wedges may be inserted between the ribs and the end plates d or channelled strips may be placed over the ribs to provide a tight fit between the ribs and plates. The lid of the container may be supported by the ribs b or, as shown in Fig. 3, the latter may support an antisplash lid j. The external surface of the container may be roughened or serrated as shown in Fig. 3 to facilitate handling and the bottom may be provided with ribs, bosses &c. to prevent the cell from moving in its case. The lower edges of the electrodes may be roughened where they make contact with the supports b<1> and the latter may be roughened at corresponding points but left smooth and rounded between the electrodes.
