Abstract
821,572. Batteries. CHLORIDE ELECTRICAL STORAGE CO. Ltd. Jan. 15, 1958 [Feb. 7, 1957], No. 4207/57. Class 53. A battery comprises bipolar electrodes formed by positive and negative plates attached to opposite faces of conducting discs 3, and separated from one another by insulating discs. In order to ensure tight joints between the cells they are enclosed in a deformable tube 7 which is forced into an outer rigid container 8 whereby the material of the tube 7 is pressed into grooves formed in the peripheries of the discs 3. Alternatively the container 8 may be shrunk on to the tube 7. The assembly is immersed in electrolyte and the ends of the tube and container turned over against the end discs. With a caustic potash electrolyte the container is made of nickel-plated steel. The battery may also be made up of lead-sulphuric acid cells. The tube 7 may be made of polyvinyl chloride or polymethyl methacrylate.
