Abstract

Limiting vertical movement of electrodes; cells.-Storage batteries are provided with means for preventing the electrodes from moving vertically through the whole depth of the space between the top of the electrodes and the cover of the cell. The means may comprise projections on the lugs of the electrodes as shown at 6 in Fig. 1, or projections 10 on the electrodes as shown in Fig. 5. A tube surrounding the lug but not quite reaching to the cover may also be used. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which the lug is provided with a conical portion 12 which is a loose fit in a conical opening in the cover. Projections 11, 13 on the cover and walls of the cell may also be used as shown in Figs. 6 and 10. Specification 260,713 is referred to.
