Abstract

379,110. Furnace roofs and walls. LONGENECKER, L. S., 317, Stratmore Avenue, Crafton Heights, Pittsburg, U.S.A. Sept. 12, 1931, No. 25634. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1930. [Class 51 (i).] In a furnace structure c o m - prising a s u s - pended roof and an apron wall composed of refractory tiles, the tiles forming the adjacent ends of the roof and apron wall have shoulder portions arranged at an angle to each other to provide a keyway to receive sector-shape tiles having key projections. A s shown in the Figure, the roof tiles 6 are suspended by hangers from a beam 4 in the manner described in Specification 364,955, the tiles 6 of the roof and apron wall being of the kind described in Specification 278,070, [Class 51 (ii), Furnaces and kilns for applying &c.], except for the terminal blocks 22 which are provided with ledges 23 to receive corresponding portions of the sector-shape tiles 3. The tiles 6 of the apron wall are supported by hangers 30 having T-shape portions which engage with a slot in a bracket 29 secured to the beam 4. The lower end of the bracket has a projection 28 to engage with a hook 26 of the hanger 24 supporting the terminal block 22 of the roof. The beam 4 may be cooled by a conduit 52 through which water or other fluid circulates.
