[Class 142 (iii).] Shuttle-changing mechanism.-The front wall 15 of the shuttle box is hinged at 18 at the rear of the lay 3 and the rear wall 16 is hinged at 25 at the front of the lay, the rear wall being kept .down normally by a coil spring on the pivot 25 and carrying an adjustable screw 30 which normally locks the front wall 15 in its working position. Upon call for replenishment the shaft 40 is rocked and raises the finger 47 into the path of the bunter 49 on the lay causing the shaft 44 to be rocked. An arm 36 on the shaft 44 engages a lever 24 on the shaft 25 to lift the rear wall 16 and free the front wall 15 which is lifted when its inclined face is engaged by the incoming shuttle 11 which is advanced by a pusher 41 actuated by a lever 43 on the shaft 44. The spent shuttle 37 is pressed against a stop 39 carried by the pivot 18 but is released and falls down a shoot 38 when the wall 15 drops to its normal position. When the finger 47 returns to its lower position it is engaged by a catch 51 on the lay which returns the shaft 44 and levers &c. 36, 43 to their normal positions.
