Abstract

376,890. Ropes. ROHS, A., Kladno, Thinnfeld, Czecho-Slovakia. May 18, 1931, No. 14630. Convention date, May 21, 1930. [Class 109.] Solid non-circular wires 1 are, before stranding in a rope-making machine, twisted into screw form. The amount of twisting is such that when the wires spring back into a stress free condition they possess a pitch corresponding to the pitch in the finished rope. Each wire 1 is drawn through a twisting device V comprising one or more dies arranged behind one another in alignment, or of pairs 9, 10, 11 of grooved rollers, the opening between the pairs being displaced with respect to one another. The dies preferably rotate at the same speed as the supply bobbin 2. A device comprising a container 32 of coloured material, fixed on a lever 34, may be provided for marking the wire as it issues from the twisting device V. The lever 34 is actuated to cause the coloured material to fall from the container on to the wire at intervals corresponding to the twist of the wire.
