Wire ropes.-Wire ropes are made by laying or twisting together strands which are, as shown, formed with a right-hand and left-hand twist respectively, the rope being so arranged that strands having a right-hand twist alternate with strands having a left-hand twist. The wires in the members constituting the strands may also be arranged with alternate right and left-hand twists, or may be twisted in the same direction, or the members constituting the strands may consist of single wires of the requisite diameter.
