Abstract

Processes of forming and twisting.-A rope is made with a twisted core and a braided cover in close engagement, the cover having a twist opposed to the twist in the core, so that the untwisting of the cover is resisted bv the twist of the core. The cord shown consists of a twisted core 11 and a braided cover 12. The core, preferably hemp, consists of three strands 13, the twist of each strand being opposed to the twist of the core. The cover preferably is of a different material, such as cotton. It consists of strands 14 of threads 15; the threads 15 are preferably twisted, the twist in the thread being opposed to that of the strands 14. The cover is braided on in such a manner that all the strands 14 pass, as shown in Fig. 2, in helices round the core 11 in one direction. The rope may be impregnated with a waterproofing-compound, such as melted paraffin.
