Abstract
376,872. Sound-reproducing devices. SACHS, H., 9, Landhausstrasse, Leipsic, Germany. May 4, 1931, No. 13125. Convention date, May 15, 1930. [Class 40 (iv).] An electromagnetic unit for use in loudspeakers, gramophone pick-ups, &c., comprises a wedge-shaped armature arranged between oppositely-disposed polepieces having oblique ends corresponding substantially to the shape of the armature, the polepieces being rigidly mounted in relation to each other but adjustable as a unit in relation to the armature transversely to the direction of vibration thereof so as to ensure equal adjustment of the air gaps between each face of the armature and the corresponding oblique face of the opposing polepiece. Fig. 1 shows a construction employing a pair of magnets, one of which is shown at a, between which are secured by screws bl, c<1>, the polepieces b, c. The magnets. are rigidly interconnected by a bracket g and are movably secured to a frame e by means of screws and nuts s, s<1> located in slots r in the frame, a screw spindle f passing through a threaded hole e<1> in the frame and having its. inner end f<1> secured to the bracket g. The wedge-shaped armature d is located between. the oblique ends of the polepieces and is secured by a bracket d<1> to the frame e. The holes in the pole pieces are made larger in the vertical direction than the screws b<1>, c<1> and the polepieces are initially adjusted so as to contact completely with the armature. The spindle f is then turned until the desired air gaps are obtained and the bolts s are then tightened. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which a single magnet a, and its rigidly attached polepieces b, c are adapted to be swung about pivots h, h<1> in the frame e. A modification of this construction, Fig. 5 (not shown) has the ends of the armature wedge-shaped in opposite directions between the respective poles, the faces of which are correspondingly shaped.
