Abstract
1,147,449. Magnets. MULLARD Ltd. 13 July, 1966 [13 July, 1965], No. 29662/65. Heading H1P. The alignment of a polepiece of a magnet is adjusted by means of differential screw threaded studs. As shown, Fig. 3, a magnet core 2 is provided with a polepiece 3 separated from it by a small air gap. The polepiece is retained by a support ring 5 secured to a member 6, mounted on the core 2, by three screws 7 provided with spacing washers 9. Three differential screw threaded studs 11 are also provided each stud comprising two threaded sections 13, 15 of the same hand but having different pitches (e.g. 28 and 30 t.p.i. respectively) joined by an unthreaded section 14 as shown in Fig. 4. The threaded sections engage bushes 16, 17 provided in support ring 5 and member 6 and a hexagonal section recess 12 is provided to allow adjustment of the alignment of the polepiece by means of a key. A nuclear magnetic resonance magnet, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a single-piece yoke (1) to which are secured two magnet cores (2) provided with polepieces (3).
