Abstract
356,246. Loud-speakers. LANCHESTER, F. W., Dyott End, Oxford Road, Moseley, Birmingham, PEARSALL, R. H., Sandalls, Copt Heath, Warwickshire, and LANCHESTER'S LABORATORIES, Ltd., Spring Road, Tyseley, Birmingham. June 4, 1930, No. 17089. [Class 40 (iv).] In a moving-coil loud-speaker the magnet system comprises a cast steel magnet 1, of which the faces 2a, 2b of the outer and inner poles are in one plane or in closely parallel planes so that they may be ground simultaneously, and outer and inner soft iron or steel polepieces 3, 4, which are maintained in spaced relationship by means of a ring 5 of brass or other non-magnetic material so as to provide an annular gap 6 for the moving coil, the outer polepiece 3 being secured to the magnet by means of bolts 7 and a back-plate 10. In the construction shown both the magnet 1 and the outer polepiece 3 are of the cruciform or four-claw type and the bolts 7 are positioned between the sets of claws, while the inner polepiece 4 and magnet 1 may either have a central bore 8 or be made solid, according to the type of loud-speaker with which the magnet system is associated.
