Abstract

368,708. Loud-speakers. LANCHESTER, F. W., Dyott End, Oxford Road, Moseley, Birmingham. Dec. 2, 1930, No. 36249. [Class 40 (iv).] In a moving-coil instrument the outer pole of the annular field gap is formed in a bar which is clamped to a baffle-board containing the diaphragm and the inner pole is centred by a ring of non-magnetic material. In a permanent magnet instrument the bar-magnet 2, Fig. 2, flux-carrying members 5, and polebar 1 are clamped together by bolts 6, which also tighten the central polepiece 3 against a brass tube 4, Fig. 1, carried on a shoulder on the inner polepiece 3 and fitting a recess in the pole-bar 1. In a modification the members 5 are dispensed with, the magnet ends being bent round to engage the bar 1. When the diaphragm is conical the bar 1 carrying the magnet assembly is bolted through the spacing chocks 8, Figs. 6 and 7, to the baffle board 7. When a flat diaphragm is used the bar 1 is bolted directly to the baffle board. The permanent magnet may be replaced by a soft iron or mild steel bars or yoke, and the assembly excited by a winding round the central polepiece.
