Abstract

376,858. Sewing-machines. BEDELL, H. G., 17, Chilka Street, Berhampore, Wellington, New Zealand. April 24, 1931, No. 12227. Convention date, Sept. 9, 1930. [Class 112.] Lock-stitching by shuttles; ; multiple-needle machines.-A rotary shuttle lock-stitch sewing machine has a lower thread holder comprising a case 1 containing a stationary bobbin and having a gap 2a in its periphery and a hook 2 formed adjacent the gap and directed to one side to engage the needle thread 3. The case 1 is supported in a raceway 5 and is rotated therein by a pair of driving wheels 18 which have gear teeth on a part of their periphery engaging snrouded teeth 17 formed in the corresponding part of the periphery of the case 1, the toothed parts being so arranged as to maintain continuous driving of the case 1, and permitting passage of the looped under thread. The invention is also applicable to multiple needle machines, e.g. a two-needle machine, Fig. 16, a shuttle 1 being provided for each needle 4 and a pair of driving wheels provided for each shuttle or the same pair may engage the two shuttles. The shuttles may be arranged in a horizontal or vertical plane and, where the spacing between the needles is adjustable e.g. into the positions indicated in dotted lines the hooks 2 in the shuttle 1 are adapted to be moved from one side to the other to correspond with the needle position.
