Abstract
400,296. Sewing-machines. ROGER, G. C., 9, Rue de Colmar, Bordeaux, Gironde, France. April 28, 1932, No. 12257. Convention date, May 6, 1931. [Class 112.] In a boot-sole sewing-machine employing a cross stitch, the necessity for vibrating the needle laterally is obviated by providing a double-ended curved needle, the machine being capable of sewing chain or lock stitches by replacing the double needle by a single one. The needle c has two curved hooks c<1>, c<2> oscillated by the needle holder a about the axis b and co-operating with the shuttle d and threaded looper i to form a cross stitch as shown in Figs. 6 and 7. The looper i presents the thread alternately to each of the hooks c<1>, c<2>. By replacing the double needle c<1>, c<2> by the single hook needle c<3>, Figs. 14 and 15, and using two threads e, j, the machine can be used to sew a lock stitch in the manner illustrated. By using only one thread j, Fig. 21, the single needle c<3> can be used to sew a chain stitch as shown.
