[Class 112.] A scalloped ornamental stitching with a knot ornamentation has two or more zig-zag, Fig. 6. or arched running thread chains, Fig. 7, staggered. obliquely to one another in the direction of work feed and in such a way that one thread chain hangs freely in another. The stitch is made in a machine having two or more needles 6, 7, Fig. 2, each obliquely staggered behind the others and arranged so as to be oscillated simultaneously to and fro laterally of the line of feed, by a needle bar frame, across stitch-forming tongues 10, 11, 12, and 12, 13, 14 respectively. The needle-thread stitch loops are linked with looper-threads from the corresponding loopers, one needle 6 entering the work 23 while the other, 7, makes free stitches. The common stitch tongue 12 has preferably a notch or recess which is shaped to accelerate the needle thread stitch on the forward feed of the fabric and then to retain it for a short time to allow the needle 7 to correctly over-stitch.
