Stitches and seams.- A seam for uniting overlapped fabric sections, for example an upper section A to a lower section C comprises a series of loops formed by a single needle thread of which certain loops I, II, IV penetrate the lower section only while at intervals a loop III is inserted at a distance from the edge and is carried back beneath the material to be concatenated along the line of insertion of the first mentioned loops. The seam is formed by a jogging needle which is displaced to form the loops III, a looper oscillating in one plane at right angles to the stitch line and a loop retainer. In the attachment of a sweat band to a hat by such a seam a reed R may be inserted in the doubled fabric C.
