Abstract

375,197. Jute - softening machines. FRASER, G., FRASER, N., and FRASER, J., Westburn Foundry, Arbroath, Angus. Nov. 28, 1931, No. 33014. [Class 120 (i).] A jute-softening machine of the type comprising a gable frame 1, Figs. 1 and 2, supporting a number of fluted crushing rollers 2, and power driven side shafts 3 supported in the frame and connected by bevel gearing 5 to certain of the fluted rollers, is equipped with guard plates 4 enclosing the bevel gearing, means being provided to permit lubrication of the bearings 6 for the side shafts and the upper and lower bushes 7, 8 for the fluted rollers without interference with the guards. The cap of each side shaft bearing is formed with an integral extension 9 the outer end of which is closely adjacent to an aperture 10 in the guard 4. The upper bush 8 of each pair is formed with a lubricant inlet 11 clear of the guard plate 4 and with a gutter 12 ending in a lip 13 from which excess lubricant supplied to the upper bush flows into an inlet 14 in the lower bush.
