Rollers and roller heads.-In the arrangement described in the parent Specification, wherein subsidiary rollers are mounted between the drawing-rollers of spinning-machines and the bottom roller thereof is driven positively, preferably from one of the main bottom rollers, at various parts of the length of the drawing- apparatus and may extend the whole length of the apparatus or be formed in separately driven sections, the driving means are each housed' in the interior of a standard and are preferably covered by sheet metal or like guards. As shown, a slide d is adjustably mounted on a slide b and carries gear wheels g, h connecting the middle bottom roller and the lower subsidiary roller. The gear wheels are covered by a sheet metal guard m, and the slide d is recessed at o, p and thus serves as a cover for the bearings of the middle and back bottom rollers. The subsidiary rollers are preferably arranged with their surfaces spaced apart so that they exert no positive pressure on the material and allow the longer fibres to slip through, and the top of the lower roller is above the line joining the nips of the front and middle drawing-rollers, so that additional support is given to the slipping fibres by the lower roller and the top subsidiary roller is not raised by any excess tension in the sliver.
