Rollers; thread guides; driving-arrangements; guards and protectors for machinery, arrangement and disposition of.-In artificial silk spinning machines a longitudinal member 10 supports bearings for a shaft 12, and bearings 26 for subsidiary shafts 25 carrying Godet rollers 11 and driven separately from the shaft 12. the gearing between the shaft 12 and the shafts 25 being enclosed in casings which are each self-contained and distinct from the member 10. The bearings of the shafts 12, 25 are similar, and comprise a bush 36 with circumferential and longitudinal grooves 37, 38, and are lubricated by rings 34. Each casing overlaps the bearing 26 and extends beneath the gearing, and comprises a member 39 secured to the bearing by a bolt 40 and a member 41 bolted thereto, and is used as a grease container for the gears and serves to protect the parts from fumes. A sleeve provided with a circumferential drip edge 29 is mounted on the shaft 25 and prevents liquid from entering the bearing.
