Abstract

374,220. Aircraft engine accessories. OPEL, F. VON, Russelsheim-on-Main, Germany. April 29, 1931, No. 12688. Convention date, May 3, 1930. [Class 4.] Aircraft engines draw their intake air from the interior of the wings. Cooled and purified exhaust gases may be added to the air intake, in which case they may be cooled by being passed through the wings which they thus serve to heat. As applied to an aeroplane having three engines, as shown, intake pipes 4 are led to preheaters 6 disposed in the wings and heated by branches from exhaust pipes 5. A portion of the exhaust gases may be led through cabin heaters 7 thence through purifiers 8, regenerators 9, and conduits 10 to the intake pipes 4. When the heaters 7 are not employed the components 8, 9 may be placed in the wings to allow of cooling. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) of the acts the intake fluid for the engines may be constituted wholly of regenerated exhaust gases. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
