This invention relates to a charging and to eliminate the piping which would otherdistrlbutin "device for internal combustion wise necessarllv be distributed over and 1 engines.- It has to do particularly with the *around the engine block.

With a carburetor on each side or with a plurality of carburetors positioned as desired, 1t has been'necessary either to utilize two air cleaners or provide a conduit system arranged over and around the cylinder block for introducingclearisednair intothe carb-uretors. I v

An air cleaner ll, of desired type may be detachably connected to the top of the cover plate 9 by screw threads or otherwise, as best shown Fig. 2. A pair of hand operated screws 2' are preferably provided for holding the cover plate in position in the usualmanner.
In operation the air is drawn through the air cleaner inthe usual manner and; then drawn into the chamber formed by the cover plate g. From the chamber formed by this cover plate 9 the air maybedrawn into both carburetors by means of the manifolds j. As
theair is, drawn into this common chamber it is heated by the top ot'the cylinder block.

Furthermore, the circulation of air which is drawn in at considerable velocity around the plugs, has as beneficial effect in keeping the plugs cool.
This invention has been illustrated and described in connection with a straight eight motor, but it will be understood that the number and arrangement of the cylinders as well as the-carburetors, may be varied as del sired without changing the scope of the invention.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a novel air charging and distributing'construction which is decidedly simple and compactin construction and arrangement, and which may be particularly utilized. in connec-tion with motors. having afplurality of carburetorsfor efiieiently collecting and conducting purified air to the carburetors.
What'I claim is: 1.,In an internal combustion engine, the
combination of a plurality of cylinders, 21 v spark plug for eaclrcylin; er,,and electrical wiring connections for the spark plugs, a carburetor for furnishing the fuel supply to said cylinders, and a cover plate in the'tlorm of a cap: bridging over boththe entire plugs above the said cylinders to the carburetor, a c plurality oi spark plugs on theft/ops of] said cylinders, together with-wiring connections with said plugs, a cover plate fitting over the top of the cylinders and bridging completely over the plugs and. the wiring, and
fitting removably over the said conduit, lead-' ing into the carburetoh neans detachably holding; the cover plate on the top ofthe cylinder, Over the conduit, a'nd'ian n; cleaner supported on: the} said cove-rjplate and purifying the ,airadmitted into-the interior otthe cover plate and thence-to; fthe;claiiburetor.
In testimony whereof I haveaflixed my signature. v JAMES SCRI-PPS BQOTH.
