Abstract
A bituminous emulsion prepared by mixing molten asphalt with a hot dilute aqueous alkali solution for example as described in Specification 226,032, [Class 81 (i), Disinfecting &c.], is stabilized by the addition to the formed emulsion of a small quantity, for example 5 per cent of a 10 per cent solution, of sodium, potassium or ammonium caseinate, and the stabilized emulsion is mixed with paper pulp, pigment, mortar, cement, plaster, sand, lime, wood meal, cork dust or the like, or applied to a pervious surface. Precipitation may be effected by the addition of dilute acids or of aluminium sulphate or other electrolyte.
