Abstract
373,419. Incandescent gas fires. BENNET, R., Mere Heath House, Davenham, near Northwich, Cheshire. May 30, 1931, No. 15848. [Class 126.] A gas fire comprises one or more moving radiants. In the form shown a hollow cylindrical radiant is mounted above a burner 3 on a spindle 2 rotated by clockwork or other means. The combustion gases pass up between the rear surface of the cylinder and a correspondingly curved refractory back 5, the surface of the radiant moving in countercurrent to the gases. The freshlyheated parts of the cylinder radiate to the room and return to the burner in a comparatively cool state, thus allowing efficient transfer of heat to the radiant. The axis of the cylindrical radiant may alternatively be vertical or inclined, the burners being preferably arranged on a curve corresponding to the path of the radiant surface. The hollow cylindrical radiants may be formed of segments, preferably with air gaps between them, which may be maintained in position by end bells secured to the spindle. Alternatively two or more cylindrical radiants, preferably with interlocking means at the ends, may be joined end to end. The hollow interior may be packed with asbestos, slag wool, or other heat-insulating material.
