Abstract
373,319. Smokebox baffles. BERNFELD, G., 6, Am Kupfergraben, Berlin. March 14, 1931, No. 7927. Convention date, March 14, 1930. [Class 51 (i).] The gases leaving the smoke tubes of a boiler and entering the smokebox are guided by a plate i extending at a slight inclination from the bottom of the tube plate to the blast pipe head z and surrounding the latter and by a deflecting plate a formed in two parts hinged together. U p o n passing between the side walls of the smokebox and the plate a the gases are directed rearwardly between hinged and adjustable guide-plates b and the plate a and then pass upwardly to the chimney h. A partition wall is provided at c or, where the smokebox door is a long way from the blast pipe, two additional plates n may be provided. The crosssectional area of the passages between the smokebox wall and the plate a is larger than the cross-sectional area of the boiler tubes.
