[Class 75 (iii).] In an igniter in the form of a pistol, particularly for domestic use, a pivoted wick-cap carrier 27 is connected by a flexible member 30, preferably a steel wire, to a hook 22 pivoted to the trigger 24 so that the wick-cap is raised against the action of a spring 29 when the trigger is operated. At the same time, the hook 22 rotates an eccentric 19 until it is released from a nose 21 by the edge 221 of the hook engaging the edge 191 of the eccentric when the latter is rapidly returned by a spring 20 for operating the friction-wheel 5, the eccentric being connected by a link 17 with an arm 15 on a ratchet disc 14 co-operating with ratchet teeth on a side face of the wheel 5. On releasing the trigger, the wick-cap is lowered by the spring 29 and the trigger is thereby returned to the normal position, the hook 22 re-engaging the nose 21 under the action of a spring 26. The wick extends through a tube 3 to a reservoir 4. The flint 6 is held against the wheel 5 by a rod Sa carried by a pivoted lever 8 controlled by a spring 10 adjustable by means of a screw 11 engaging a nut 12 connected to the free end of the spring.
