[Class 102 (i).] In a deep-well pump a double-acting cylinder is employed and a number of cylinders may be arranged in series. Each cylinder comprises a barrel a and an outer casing b which are secured to valve casings l. Each valve casing comprises a suction valve g, with through passages g<1>, sliding on a tube carrying the discharge valve h. The piston-rod o passes through the tube which carries a guide, ring p, another guide ring being carried by the valve h. A spring r is arranged between the valve g and the ring p. The lower valve h discharges into the space c between the cylinders a, b, while the upper valve h discharges into a union m connecting the cylinder to an upper cylinder, or to the rising main d. The suction ports e and discharge ports f are arranged alternately in the valve casings. The lower end of the lowest cylinder is closed by a cap k. The piston-rod o carries the pistons i of all the cylinders and carries also perforated crossheads u sliding in the rising main.
