[Class 7 (ii).] For balancing two- or four-stroke multicylinder engines having four combustion cylinders and two pump cylinders, all in line, the cranks 1 .. 4 of the combustion cylinders are arranged in opposed pairs in planes which are not at right-angles to each other, and the compresser cylinders are arranged both at one end with their cranks k<1>, k<2> opposed and in a plane preferably symmetrical with the combustion-cylinder cranks. To obtain an engine with eight combustion cylinders and two pairs of pump cylinders, two units constructed as described above are arranged symmetrically about a central plane at right-angles to the crank shaft.
