Abstract
Fabrics, treating with liquids; printing; cellulose acetate, dyeing.--Fabrics having a cellulose acetate pile are printed or padded with a solution of regenerated cellulose in caustic alkali to obtain a local or all-over deposition of cellulose. The fabric, after treatment with the solution, may be dried and the alkali neutralized. The cellulose solution may be prepared by dissolving the regenerated cellulose in an 8-12 per cent aqueous solution of caustic soda or potash and a further addition of regenerated cellulose may be made to bring the solution to a consistency suitable for printing without the addition of other thickeners. In an example a cold gelatinous solution of viscose artificial silk in a cold 10 per cent solution of caustic soda is applied by padding or printing to an artificial silk velvet, the fabric is dried, and the alkali is neutralized with acetic acid; on treatment with a cotton dye the cotton backing and the deposited cellulose are coloured leaving any untreated cellulose acetate pile white and lustrous. By applying the regenerated cellulose solution at a higher temperature the lustre of the cellulose acetate may be dulled. Pattern effects are also obtainable after an all-over deposition of the cellulose by dyeing and printing the dyed fabric with a discharge paste. Specificatio 297,607, [Class 42 (i), Fabrics, Finishing &c.], is referred to.
