Abstract
In a process for producing pattern effects on fabrics composed of acetate silk or artificial silk made from cellulose ethers woven with threads of cotton or other material by printing the fabric with a reserve and then treating it with a solvent for the unreserved threads of acetate silk, enhanced effects are produced by preliminary dyeing, subsequent dyeing, top dyeing, or colour or discharge printing. Variegated pattern effects on a white cotton ground are obtained by printing the fabric with one or more alkaline printing colours as reserve. A pattern of white acetate silk on a coloured ground is obtained by dyeing the fabric in the piece so that the cotton only is dyed, the fabric then being reserved and the unreserved acetate silk dissolved. Conversely, coloured acetate silk effects on white cotton grounds may be produced by first dyeing the acetate silk, and then reserving and dissolving it. Further effects may be obtained by taking advantage of the different affinities of cotton and acetate silk for dyestuffs. The fabric may be dyed in two colours and then reserved. Specification 10867/14, [Class 142 (iv), Woven fabrics &c.], is referred to.
