Abstract

313,992. Shepherd, F. L., and Cords, Ltd. March 21, 1928. Pile fabrics are woven with two or more wefts of different characteristics and affinities for dyestuffs, each weft acting at parts as a ground pick and at other parts as a pile pick so that after treatment in a two colour dye bath, pile portions differently coloured are produced. A weft of viscose artificial silk V for example is floated at certain parts as indicated by rectangles in Fig. 2, and at other parts of the fabric forms ground, a second weft of cellulose acetate artificial silk C being also floated at certain parts and forming ground at other parts, one weft forming ground at those parts of the fabric where the other is being floated. When the pile flats are cut, pile portions of viscose are formed in the part A, pile portions of cellulose acetate at the part B, and plain portions, where neither weft is floated, are formed at the part C. The fabric after being bleached or scoured may be treated in a dye bath of Direct Sky Blue GS, which dyes the viscose but not the cellulose acetate and S.R.A. Orange II, which dyes the cellulose acetate. A weft may also be used which is woven as a ground pick throughout. The wefts may be preliminarily treated in known manner to increase their affinity for or resistance to particular dyestuffs. The Provisional Specification refers to the use of cotton, linen, or wool warps.
