Abstract

363,724. Ironing- presses. AMERICAN LAUNDRY MACHINERY CO., Norwood Station, Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A. Sept. 23, 1930, No. 30821/31. Convention date, April 18, 1930. Divided on 363,718. [Class 133 (ii).] In a laundry or similar press having a fluid-pressure operated power unit, a supplementary supply of fluid pressure is automatically admitted to the unit to apply the final pressure after the press has been lightly closed. Manually controlled valves (not shown) permit fluid pressure to pass through a pipe 27 to open an inlet valve 29 in a casing 28 against spring pressure and simultaneously to close an exhaust port 31 as in the parent Specifica,- tion. The fluid pressure passes through a port 30 to the cylinder 16 of the power unit and the piston 15 moves to the right to close the press and a cam-shaped bar 65 secured to the pistonrod 14 moves with the piston. Until the press is substantially closed a roller 64 is on the high part of the cam and the other arm 60 of the bell-crank lever 61 carrying the roller 64 and pivoted at 62 is out of contact with the stem 59 of a valve 56 in the supplementary fluid-pressure supply pipe so that the valve 56 is maintained closed by its spring 57. When the roller rides down to the low part of the cam the bell-crank lever rotates clockwise and opens the valve 56 so that the supplementary fluid pressure passes through a pipe 58 to the casing 28 and cylinder 16. When the inlet valve 29 is open a lug 67 on a bell-crank lever 49 pivoted at 50 and linked to the press-opening pedal is clear of a rearward extension 61a of the lever 61. When, however, the press-opening pedal is depressed to rotate the bell-crank lever 49 counterclockwise and close the valve 29 the lug 67 engages the extension of lever 61 and rotates this member counterclockwise so that the valves 56, 29 close simultaneously.
