Abstract
376,802. Valve-actuating mechanism. TULLIS, Ltd., D. & J. and JACK, W., Kilbowie Iron Works, Clydebank. March 16, 1931, No. 7984. [Class 135.] In a laundry-press which is closed by a fluid-pressure operated motor the inlet valve 2, Fig. 1, from the supply 21 to the cylinder 22 and the exhaust valve 3 from the cylinder are mounted on a common stem 1 and are normally held closed and open respectively by a spring 2<1>. The stem is secured to a slidable member 8 on which a whipple-tree 4 is pivoted at 6. Levers 18, Fig. 3, having pushbuttons 5 at one end are mounted on a shaft 20 and the other arms 19 of the levers engage the ends of the whipple-tree so that, in order to close the exhaust valve and open the inlet valve, both pushbuttons must be simultaneously depressed by the operator. The movement of the whippletree is limited by stops 9 and the valves are held in the operative position by springs 12 which bear on the whipple-tree and are carried by rods 11 which are connected to the movable press-bead. Release of the valves is effected by a pedal or lever 13, Fig. 1, which is linked to a bell-crank lever the bifurcated arm 16 of which engages the rear edge of the whipple tree, and the press is opened by restoring springs.
