[Class 138 (ii).] In a press or other machine having an opening and closing movement and wherein the closing movement is controlled by manually closing two exhaust valves associated with a pressure fluid supply pipe and which is opened by actuation of a third manual control, means are provided to reset positively the press-closing controls on actuation of the press-opening control. As shown a main control 30 actuates the inlet valve 29 in the fluid supply pipe 28, and the two press-closing manual controls comprise exhaust valves 20, 21 which are closed by depressing buttons 33, 34 respectively. The buttons must be maintained depressed until after the piston 2 operating the press-closing link and lever system has passed a port 53 in the cylinder 1, whereupon the exhaust valves are automatically held closed by the fluid pressure acting through diaphragm chambers 43, 44. The press is opened by depressing a lever 54 of which an extension 56 engages the intermediate valve-operating lever 37 to swing the latter counterclockwise thereby permitting the exhaust valve 20 to open and exhaust the cylinder and diaphragm chambers. The upper end of the lever 37 engages the lever 35 on which the button 33 directly acts and rotates this lever so that the button is raised and thereby positively reset. The button 34 is also raised by the rotation of a rock-shaft 57 carrying arms 58, 60 engaging respectively the levers 54, 36. The press may be initially closed, without the application of heavy pressure by a separate piston and cylinder member 60a, to which pressure fluid is admitted from a pipe 67 through a pedal controlled valve 65. As shown, an inlet valve 210 may be provided on the stem of the exhaust valve 21 for actuation by the button 34, the valve 210 being in series with the main inlet valve 29. In a modification the inlet valve 29 and the initial closing cylinder 60a and controls therefor are omitted.
