Abstract

Heat is supplied by electric means n, or by internal heaters. Powdered fuel introduced at f passes down over the trays a in contact with hydrogen, which is introduced in a preheated state at g and passes up the annular space d between the vessel and the trays before meeting the fuel at the point h. Vapour products and excess hydrogen leave by a pipe j, while ashes pass through a trap e to an ashpit below. In a modification, Fig. 7, suitable for coals of a more recent formation, such as Sardinian, the fuel is brought by a conveyer m into contact with a hydrogen jet g and then falls through a space s fitted with scrapers l to a grinding device o fitted above the trays a.
