Abstract
363,318. Cleaning felts of papermaking machines. HARRIS, J. L., Thomson, New York, U.S.A. Sept. 15, 1930, No. 27569. [Class 96.] The nozzles of a felt-cleaning apparatus for paper-making machines are directly reciprocated above the felt by a fluid-operated reciprocating engine. Water from a flexible pipe 57, Fig. 2, passes through pipes 20, 23 and is discharged from jets 24, the pipes &c, being mounted on rollers 14 in a frame 11, preferably of slotted tubes, and being reciprocated across the felt by an engine comprising a cylinder 26, piston, and connecting- rod 18 attached to an arm 17 fixed to the pipe assembly 20. The valve 36 supplying water or compressed air to the cylinder 26, is actuated by shoulders 58, 58<1> on the pipe 20 engaging a pivoted arm 48 balanced by a weight 55, the weight aiding valve actuation through links 45 carrying a roller 46<1> in a slot 47. The valve 36 connects ports 33, 33<1>, Fig. 5, alternately to the supply pipe 41 and to the drain pipe 42, the connection from the port 33<1> to the pipe 42 including a pipe 43.
