Abstract

120,147. Blyth, L. M. Jan. 5, 1918. Suction apparatus.-A vacuum roller for use in paper-making machines comprises a driven roller 1, surrounded by a hollow perforated cylinder 2 supported on rollers 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. The rollers 3, 4, 5 are rubber covered, with metal sleeves on their ends, and, with the roller 1, the cylinder 2, and adjustable packing-pieces 13, form two suction boxes which communicate with a vacuum pump by means of pipes 16. Trucks 11 prevent end movement of the cylinder 2. The packing- pieces 13 are hollow, and are continuously flooded with water through pipes 13a.
