Abstract

279,769. Marks, E. C. R., (Beloit Iron Works). June 24, 1926. Suction apparatus.-In suction rolls for paper machines, a hollow shaft 7, Fig. 1, carrying the suction chamber is connected at 57, through the pedestal 12 on which it is mounted, to a chamber 56 therein, connected through an opening 58 with a suction pump. The arrangement may be as shown in Fig. 4, the pedestal 74 being pivoted to the foundation member 75 so that the said member 74 may be swung outwards to permit of changing of the wire the suction roll being tiltable by a screw device at the other end in order to relieve the member 74 of the pressure of the roll for this purpose. The openings in the pedestal and shaft are enlarged to permit adjustment between the shaft and bearing without shutting off communication between the suction chamber and the chamber in the pedestal.
