170,319. Hamel, J. O., and McLaughlin, J. E. May 18, 1920. Suction apparatus. -A suction box for a Fourdrinier machine comprises rollers 1, water-sealing end pieces 6, and packing-pieces 9 pressed against the rollers by springs 11. The rollers 1 are adjustable laterally towards the end pieces 6 by screws, and the tops of the end pieces are recessed as shown at 19 and provided with slots 18, Fig. 8, connected by slots 29 with the suction chamber. Sealing-straps 27 running over rollers 26 are sucked down and effectively prevent air from leaking in at the edges of the wire cloth 28, which is thus pressed down on a narrow strap 33 running beneath the wire cloth in grooves 16<1> in the end pieces 6. Springs 30 press the sealing- straps 27 in the recesses 19.
