Abstract

298,671. St. Anne's Board Mill Co., Ltd., and Heys, R. B. July 14, 1927. Suction apparatus.-The frictional wear between the suction box 2, Fig. 1, and the pulp carrying band 1 of a machine for making paper, mill and other board, and the like, is reduced by the provision of an endless belt 19, preferably of rubber, passing over the front and rear portions 4, 5 of the periphery of the mouth of the suction box to provide a moving seal therefor, the part of the endless belt between the front and rear portions being supported on rollers 8, 10, and depressed by the roller 9 so as to provide a space through which suction can be transmitted to the pulp-carrying band. Separate, rubber end straps 18, Fig. 2, may also be provided. Water or other lubricating fluid under pressure or not may be supplied to a groove 23 in the periphery of the mouth of the suction box. The suction box 24. Fig. 4, may be of width less than that of the pulp carrying band. The endless belt used therewith may be formed with transversely extending grooves 26, Fig. 5, with holes 27 at the bottom of the grooves over the, suction box, moving endless bands 28 providing a seal for the ends of the grooves.
