Abstract

246,968. St. Anne's Board Mill Co., Ltd., and Heys, R. B. Dec. 15, 1924. Suction apparatus. - Apparatus for replacing or supplementing the suction boxes of paper machines comprises a band B of rubber or other flexible material having channels b of triangular cross-section running in contact with the under surface of the wire cloth A of the paper machine. Suction devices F having passages f close the ends of the channels b. In a modification, an endless tapered strip G, Fig. 5, of rubber is carried at each side of the band B and abuts against the passages f, the edges a of the wire cloth bearing against the tapered part of the strip G, as shown. Instead of mounting the band B on rollers C, a large single roller may be used. The invention may be applied for withdrawing moisture &c. from wehs, sheets, or layers of paper and other material.
