Abstract

324,307. Broughton, A. E. June 7, 1929. Drying.-Particles of fibre, sizing, and the like which are deposited upon the drying rolls of a paper machine are removed by a flexible doctor blade 13 and caught up in a hood 14 and carried away by suction through a pipe at the end of the hood. The hood is secured to a shaft 16 hinged at 17 to a casting 12 which itself is hinged at 11 so that the doctor blade and hood may be put out of operation. Adjusting screws are provided at each end of the hood to adjust the opening between the hood 14 and the drying cylinder 8. An adjustable opening 27 at the closed end of the hood is so set as to ensure a draft longitudinally through the hood. Screens 20 prevent broken pieces of paper from entering the conduit.
