Abstract

637,639. Suction boxes of paper-making machines. BERTRAMS, Ltd., and INGLIS, J. May 22, 1948, No. 13917. [Class 96] The top 4 of a suction box 1. of a paper-making machine is held in a frame 3 which is so fitted to the top of the suction box 1 as to be immediately detachable on removing the box from beneath the wire or felt 5. As illustrated, the top 4 is slotted and slides in grooves 12 of the frame 3, spigots of which rest in recesses 10, where jointing material may be provided. Internal crosspieces may bridge the frame 3 and adjustable end-stops 8 limiting the suction opening in accordance with the width of the paper being made are provided. The frame 3 may be held down by latches. In a modified form, the slotted top 4 is substituted by spaced spars. The body of the box may be made of timber, cast metal or welded, riveted or bolted plates, or of extruded light aluminium alloy; the box may be flexibly supported to allow it to oscillate transversely.
