Abstract
291,920. Blackie &. Son, Ltd., and Ross, W. April 8, 1927. Dust, collecting.-Dust is removed from a paper web 4 on its way to the printing-cylinders (not shown) by means of suction nozzles acting on opposite sides of the web, brushing-devices being provided adjacent to the nozzles on one or both sides of the web. Devices for blowing the dust into the mouths of the suction nozzles may also be provided. A number of nozzles 5 arranged across the width of the web are provided on the upper side, each nozzle having a mouth 6 in the form of a long slot. The nozzles 5 extend from a main suction pipe 2 carried by an arm 9 pivotal about a pin 10, which is adjustable along a slot in a bracket 12 so that the nozzles may be adjusted along the length of the web and may be swung up out of the way. The pipe 2 is supported by pillars 14, which are screwed into bosses on the pipe, and rest on foot plates 16. A brush 24 is arranged on each nozzle at a trailing angle to the web. and is both pivotally and adjustably mounted. A valve may be provided in each nozzle 5 and in the main pipe 2. On the lower side of the web a similar set of nozzles 7 is provided extending from a pipe 3 fixed to a girder 19, which is attached to a fixed part by screws 17<1> passing through slots 18, and is supported by pillars 20. One boundary of each nozzle slot, e.g. the boundary 27 or 28, is at a different level from the other to prevent the web 4 sticking to the nozzle, and the edges of the slots may be serrated.
