Abstract

534,859. Cylinder paper-making machines. PUETTE. R., and EDGE, J. Oct. 3, 1939. No. 27085. [Class 96] Projections 15, 16a, 18 from the wall 13 of the vat of a cylinder paper-making machine, which are preferably adjustable towards the cylinder mould 10 which rotates against the direction of the pulp flow, constrict the passage available for flow of pulp thereby increasing the speed of pulp and washing off loosely adhering fibres at these places thus evening the surface of the web and allowing subsequent deposition to be more uniform and firm, and progressively increasing the pulp consistency. In one form the surface of the projection 16a is so shaped as to promote cross movement of the pulp and thus orient the fibres ; alternatively one or more of the projections may be vibrated.
