Abstract
668,822. Fourdrinier paper-making machines. BLACK-CLAWSON CO. Jan. 20, 1948 [Oct. 17, 1947], No. 1709/48. Class 96. In a Fourdrinier paper-making machine, pulp is fed uniformly at relatively high velocity through an orifice 30 into a passage 45 whose walls 43 and 44 diverge at an angle not greater than 10 degrees and thence is passed, with reduced velocity, through a slot 40 into a flow box 10, from which, the pulp is fed to the wire 11 at wire speed. The slot may pierce one wall of the flow box, e.g. its bottom 41, and may be adjacent an edge of a second wall thereof, e.g. wall 42. One wall of the passage, e.g. wall 43, may be parallel to the said second wall of the flow box. A baffle 55 with slots 56 may be placed across the flow box and the total area of these slots may equal the area of the slot 40. The orifice 30 may be smaller in area than the slot 40 but may extend as far laterally as does the latter, e.g. over the entire width of the machine. Before reaching the orifice 30 the pulp may be passed through a flow-evener comprising a pair of counterflow tapered conduits 24 and 25.
