Abstract

469,203. Supplying pulp to papermaking machines. MILNE, S. March 21, 1936, No. 8455. [Class 96] In a flow or breast box of a Fourdrinier or cylinder papermaking machine, pulp flows, e.g. vertically, from an inlet e through successively branched pipes, or apertured paths to a single final outlet at the breast board m, to all parts of which the resistance to flow is the same. Boards, or baffles of copper, bronze, wood, rubber, &c. with holes successively smaller and more numerous towards the outlet, or alternatively, one or more pivotally adjusted boards with one or both longitudinal edges shaped to define a tapered opening may be used. One or more agitators may be fitted, and the boards &c. may be hinged, or readily removed to facilitate cleaning. There may be two inlets e fed from a branched pipe or from independent sources. There may be a movable wall near the final outlet to control the pulp flow. According to the Provisional Specification, the flow box may also have an indicator of the necessary head of pulp for a given speed of wire-cloth.
